“Best
short of the decade” Göran Olsson, Swedish Film Institute
Young mother Anna-Karin Johansson was
34 years old when a blood-vessel burst in her brain. Her awakening
from coma was a nightmare; the damage was extensive. Chaotic
sensory impressions distorted her understanding of reality. But
as her condition stabilized, she fought to go home.
It is Anna-Karin’s
true story that forms the basis FISSURA, a 28-minute narrative
film that takes us into the mind and the strange world of a stroke
patient as she struggles to resume ownership of her body, her thoughts and
feelings, her future and her life.
